Dear students,

we just published the results for the final exam as well as your final grade and passing status. These are both visible on your personal status page. So far, your final grade consists of your exam grade and the single-gradescale bonus if you achieved enough points in the exercise sheets.

If you participate in the re-exam (October 20 ~10am) you can still improve your final grade as we will use the better of the two exam grades to calculate your final grade.

Be reminded that the final exam inspection will take place this Thursday (July 21) in HS.001 in E1.3 from 12-2pm.

Dear students,

the following contains information regarding the final exam next week. Please read it carefully and ask questions in the forum or by mail in advance.

The exam will start on Monday, July 18, at 8:15 am and will take place in the Günter-Hotz lecture hall. It will last 90 minutes and be finished at 9:45 am if we start on time.

You are allowed to bring

• one DIN A4 page with handwritten notes on both sides,
• and a non-programmable calculator

as auxiliary tools. In addition, a formula sheet will be enclosed within the exam. This can already be found under materials.

Seating will begin at 08:00 am. We will put up seating plans next to the lecture hall entrances, which will already be published  tomorrow. When entering, please leave your jackets and bags on the sides, turn off all electronic devices (smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, ...) and leave them in your bag.

Take to your seat only

• your UdS card as well as personal identification,
• writing materials (pens, rulers, ...),
• your cheat sheet & calculator,
• your mask if you wish to,
• food and drinks if necessary.

You are not allowed to bring/use your own paper. We will provide you with enough paper during the exam.

If you have any questions during the exam or need to communicate with us for any other reason, we recommend you to wear a medicinical face mask while doing so.

Please make sure to arrive at the lecture hall on time at 8:00 am.

Just as a reminder, please register in the LSF for the main exam until one week prior to the exam. If you are not sure whether you will have enough points on the exercise sheets and are planning to participate in the main exam, please register anyways. You will not loose one of your examination attempts, if you are not admitted to the exam.
Additionally, we have set a date for the inspection of the main exam. It will take place on Thursday, 21.7., 12-2pm in E1.3, Lecture Hall 001.

Dear Students,

we published the mock exam under Materials. A subset of the solutions to the mock exam will be discussed in the lecture on July 12. Use the office hours / tutorials or the forum to discuss solutions that are not covered in the lecture. In order to give you more exam preparation time, the mock exam also serves as a substitute for exercise sheet L: you may submit solutions to up to 4 exercises. Details regarding the submission modalities and grading can be found within the mock exam.

Note that the new content covered by this weeks lecture will only be relevant for the re-exam.

The tutorials on July 14 will be used for rehearsal of previous lecture content. Please use this poll to tell us for which topics you would appreciate some help.

Note that exercise sheet H is a bonus sheet. That means you cannot lose any points this week, but instead catch up by earning up to 9 bonus points. The content covered (maximum likelihhod estimation) by this sheet is however still relevant for the exam so preparing this sheet is highly recommended in any case.

Dear Students,

We published training sheet G, exercise sheet G, the sample solutions to training sheet F and the script chapter on parameter estimation. These are all available on the materials page. We also uploaded new videos from the 2020 video course in the forum.

As already announced in the introductory lecture, the main exam will take place on July 18, 8:30am. Please do not forget to register for the exam in the LSF (at least 2 weeks prior). There will also be a re-exam on October 20 10am. Obtaining the exam admission qualifies you to participate in both exams. You pass the course if you pass at least one of the exams. Your final grade will be calculated from the exam with the better grade.

Furthermore, we would like to remind you that especially the on-site office hours (Monday, Friday) are a great place for working on the exercise sheets. Having concrete questions is not a prerequisite for visiting: you can also just come to the office hour, work on the exercises there, and if a question comes up, our tutors will be more than happy to help!

We have decided to change the office hour on Wednesdays to a completely online session, the Zoom link can be found on the main page. The office hours on Mondays and Fridays will only be offered in-person in E1.3, room 014. If you have any questions, you can also always ask them in the forum.

Dear Students,

since some teams are already starting to disband, we are reopening the team groupings. Thus it is possible again to leave your current team, or join other teams (provided you know their invite code). This is meant to simplify the regrouping process for teams where some members dropped the course and enables them to self-organize. If you are looking for a new group, because your team disbanded, you can once again use the forum.

We kindly ask you to treat this feature responsibly, i.e.,

• do not create new (permament) single-member teams,
• try to keep your teams size at 3 or more if possible
• make sure to notify your team members in beforehand if you are planning to join another team.

We will be closely monitoring your usage of this feature and may decide to revoke it if necessary.

Dear Students,

we decided to tentatively move the regular lecture slot. Thus, starting next week, there will be only one lecture per week on Tuesday 8:30. If we decide that another week with two lectures is required, it will be announced in time. Since todays lecture did not cover all families of discrete distributions, you should consider watching the videos on the poisson distribution and its relationship to the binomial distribution (Video 3.5.3 - 3.5.5), or read up on them in the lecture notes.

the team groupings are now complete. If your team disbands over the course of the semester, you can let us know and we will try to assign you to a new team. If you do not know how to contact your team members: you can do so using the personal message function in the forum. The forum/CMS usernames of your team members are now displayed in a separate section titled 'Team Members' on your personal status page.

If any of you did not yet join the forum, it is thus vital you do so now, such that your team members are able to contact you! In case any of you are unable to contact your team members please do not hesitate to ask us for help in the forum.

This is especially important as the submission deadline for exercise sheet A draws close. Regarding the submission process, please keep in mind that

• solutions to the exercises have to be submitted online on your personal status page as three separate files, one for each exercise,
• only one team member should submit your teams solutions.

Finally, we would like to remind you that in order to receive full points for exercises that ask you to conduct a mathematical proof, it is necessary that you justify every step of your proof.

Dear Students,

To be able to supervise more of you at the same time during the on-site office hours, we will be moving the Monday and Friday office hours to room 014 in building E1.3. The Wednesday office hour is unaffected by this change until further notice.

As of today you can view your assigned tutorial on your personal status page. If you think there has been an error, because your assigned tutorial slot does not fit you at all, or if you missed the registration deadline, please contact us immediately.

Furthermore, we have uploaded chapter 3 of the lecture notes, training sheet A, exercise sheet A (already at rev 2) and the sample solutions to training sheet X. These are all availabe on the materials page. We also uploaded new videos from the 2020 video courses in the forum.

Starting today you can also create or join teams for solving the exercise sheets via your personal status page. The team size is set to exactly 3 students. You will have time until 22.04.2022 23:59. Any students that are not part of a team after this deadline will be grouped into teams by us. Teams with less than 3 members will also be filled with unassigned students by us.

We already uploaded today's lecture recording under materials. There, you will also find the organsiational slides, a recoding of the introduction Prof. Wolf gave, training sheet X and the lecture notes on descriptive statistics and probabilities. Note that unlike planned in the regular weeks, the solutions to training sheet X will not be uploaded until next week, in order to encourage you to really try and solve the exercises on your own.
